MANCHESTER — The suspect in the Feb. 12 stabbing outside 1087 Elm St. is now the subject of a manhunt, and law enforcement personnel are asking the public for assistance in locating him.

Desmel Cooper, 40, of Manchester, is wanted on charges of first-degree assault and convicted felon in possession of a deadly weapon stemming from the early-morning stabbing, police said.

Manchester police and members of the U.S. Marshals’ New Hampshire Joint Fugitive Task Force are actively searching for Cooper, whose criminal history goes back to 2011, when he was found guilty in Federal Court in Vermont of selling cocaine. He was then prosecuted for possessing a “shank” in a federal facility in 2014, according to the U.S. Marshals Service.

Cooper was still on federal supervision at the time of the Feb. 12 stabbing. He allegedly stabbed a 37-year-old man four times and caused a laceration of his liver, the Marshals Service said.

They said Cooper has a history of violent behavior, is known to carry a knife and has allegedly made prior threats to law enforcement. He has strong ties to Brooklyn, New York.

Anyone who believes they have seen Cooper is urged to contact the Marshals Service’s district office in Concord at 225-1632, or call 1-877-WANTED-2. Citizens can also call 911 or their local police department.
