Alleged hammer attack lands local woman in jail facing several felony charges
Diane Silva, 36, of Nashua
NASHUA — An unidentified man went to police last Wednesday with allegations that a Nashua woman, whom he knows, attacked him with “various objects,” one of which police said was a hammer, in the early morning hours of Valentine’s Day.
Arrested the day after police took the report from the alleged victim was Diane Silva, 36, who was initially charged with one count of first degree assault — domestic violence on the warrant that Special Investigations Division detectives had issued as part of their investigation.
But when they took Silva into custody, they filed four additional first-degree assault — domestic violence charges against her, as well as three counts of simple assault — domestic violence and one count of breach of bail, according to police.
The first-degree assault charges are Class A felonies, while the simple assault and breach of bail charges are Class A misdemeanors.
Silva’s case summary on file in court lists the five first-degree assault charges, but lists only one simple assault charge. The difference may stem from proceedings at Silva’s arraignment, which took place in Superior Court last Thursday.
Silva was ordered held on preventive detention, and a review hearing was scheduled for this coming Wednesday. According to the case summary, the court has also scheduled a dispositional conference, which is currently set for April 25.
Aside from listing the charges and allegations, and the fact that the alleged victim suffered serious, but not life-threatening, injuries, police gave few additional details. They didn’t say whether Silva and the alleged victim were married, or in a relationship, or are otherwise related.
Also unknown is where the alleged incident took place, and whether the two live in the same residence. Nor did police elaborate on the circumstances surrounding the incident, such as a motive for the alleged attack.
