Authorities have identified the two officers involved as the investigation continues.
CONCORD — Veteran law enforcement officer Sgt. Douglas Wall has been identified as the officer who fatally shot an armed teen weilding a knife during a confrontation at a lakeside Gilford home on New Year’s Day.
A second officer, identified as Nathan Ayotte, discharged his electronic taser during the incident, according to the office of Attorney General John Formella.
Mischa Fay, 17, was hit with the taser and shot once in the chest shortly after Wall and Ayotte arrived at the home, 5 Varney Point Road Left, just before 10 p.m.
According to published reports, Fay’s family called police asking for help because the teen was reportedly armed with a knife and “was in a rage.”
The Concord Monitor reported recently that police were called to the Fay residence seven times over the past year or so, all of which stemmed from issues with the teen’s safety and health concerns.
The family owns and operates Fay’s Boat Yard, the landmark boat sales and service marina on Smith Cove in Gilford.
“The exact circumstances surrounding the incident remain under investigation. It is anticipated that the report regarding whether Sergeant Wall’s use of deadly force was justified will be released once the investigation is completed,” authorities said in a statement.
