MANCHESTER — The driver of a mid-size sedan who police said lost control of the vehicle for as-yet unknown reasons escaped serious injury when the car left I-293, travelled at least 200 feet down and embankment and landed on Brady Circle, a short, residential street.
Numerous first-responders were called to the scene based on information indicating the crashed vehicle was on fire, and that there were an unknown number of people entrapped.
State police arrived at the scene and located the vehicle, which they determined had left the right side of I-293 North just below the I-93 South merge.
Firefighters stretched hose lines, and began extrication of the person in the vehicle. Crews cut a fence, trees, and removed parts of the vehicle to access the victim. Although initial reports indicated the vehicle was on fire, state police said after further investigation there was no fire.
The victim was removed from the vehicle and transported to the Elliot Hospital with what appeared to be non life-threatening injuries. Responders verified there was only one person in the vehicle at the time of the crash.
A state DOT crew set up electronic signs, known as “arrow boards,” which directed traffic around the closed right lane of the highway.
Supreme Towing removed the vehicle from the woods, and the right lane of I-293 was reopened after about 1.5 hours.
State police continue to investigate the crash.
