(Photo by JEFFREY HASTINGS) Firefighters begin overhauling the remains of the heavily damaged section of the historic property struck by fire Sunday.

DEERFIELD — Firefighters from Deerfield and several mutual aid towns were dispatched to a report of a fully involved barn fire at 51 Meeting House Hill Road on Sunday.

When responders arrived they found a garage attached to a house fully engulfed in fire and immediately called for a second alarm to bring more resources to the scene and for station coverage.

The structure quickly collapsed and firefighters worked in windy conditions to keep the fire from further damaging the house, and spreading to nearby brush. Crews worked to apply streams of water to the house which was built in 1764.

The garage was a total loss, despite intense fire and wind the house primarily had exterior damage with some smoke that entered the house.

Several towns responded including Auburn, Allenstown, Candia, Chester, Chichester, Durham, Epping, Lee, Raymond, and Strafford. 

Deerfield Fire Chief Matt Fisher said the cause and origin of the fire are not known at this time. He confirmed no one was home at the time of the fire, and there were no injuries to firefighters.
