Melanie Levesque announces bid for New Hampshire Secretary of State

By Staff | Nov 18, 2022

CONCORD — Thursday, Sen. Melanie Levesque announced she is running to serve as New Hampshire’s Secretary of State. During her term as the Chair of the Senate Election Law Committee, Levesque was a fierce champion in the State House for strengthening New Hampshire’s election system with modernization reforms and improving election access for all Granite State voters — regardless of their age, color, income, or zip code.

“It is no secret. Over the past decade in New Hampshire, our sacred right — the right to vote — has been under attack. New Hampshire has become home to some of the most aggressive attacks on our democracy. I am proud to be running for Secretary of State to protect our voters from these attacks and make critical reforms to this office to better serve Granite Staters,” said Senator Melanie Levesque. “My background as a legislator and founder of a small business gives me the experience to implement common-sense reforms that will make the office more efficient and save taxpayers money. As the next Secretary of State, I will be guided by a passion to improve election processes that make it easier for every voter to participate in our elections, stand up to attacks on our democracy, streamline business operations, and protect our First in the Nation Primary.

“Our democracy works best when everyone is included. I will work hard to earn the support of state legislators and every Granite Stater because serving as our next Secretary of State will be an honor of a lifetime. I love our democracy and I know we can do better.”

After announcing her run for Secretary of State Senator Levesque received strong endorsements from Senator Becky Whitley and Rep. Joan Hamblet, two leaders, who understand the challenges facing New Hampshire’s Secretary of State’s office, and the urgency of finding solutions.

“Melanie Levesque has a proven record of working tirelessly to strengthen the security and transparency of our elections, and advocating to guarantee that every eligible voter in New Hampshire can cast their ballot,” said Sen. Becky Whitley. “Melanie will get the Secretary of State’s office back on track, and has my full support.”

“Melanie’s experience as a State Representative, Senator, Chair of the Senate Election Law Committee, and founder of a small business makes her exceptionally qualified to be the next New Hampshire Secretary of State,” said Portsmouth ward 3 moderator, Rep. Joan Hamblet. “As a local election official myself, I know that Melanie understands how critical it is to provide support to local election officials to make sure we have the tools and training we need to keep our elections running smoothly.
