Pelosi stepping down as House leader
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi announced this afternoon she is stepping down as the leader of the U.S. House of Representatives, CNN is reporting.
Pelosi plans to continue serving California in the U.S. House.
Democrats will vote on a successor on Nov. 30, according to CNN. U.S. Rep. Hakeem Jeffries of New York is considered a likely choice to succeed Pelosi.
In New Hampshire, state Democratic Party chairman Ray Buckley called Pelosi “one of the toughest, most effective strategists and leaders the Democratic Party has ever known.
“Since she was first elected to the House in 1987, congresswoman Pelosi has been long known as a skilled Democratic legislator and fundraising powerhouse,” Buckley added.
