CONCORD — An as-yet unidentified man’s alleged attempt to elude police in an Amazon Prime delivery truck he allegedly stole in Concord Sunday afternoon was foiled by a dead-end street — and a police K9 that reportedly flushed him out of the truck then convinced him to surrender.

The man, who appears to be in his 50s, was taken into custody at the northern end of Manchester’s Elm Street after a brief struggle with officers, during which they sent in the K9 to assist.

The man’s identity, the charges he faces and other details of the incident are forthcoming from state police.

The suspect underwent a medical evaluation following his arrest. Indications are he was being transported back to Concord, where the alleged theft occurred, to be booked on the charges filed against him.

The series of events that led to the man’s arrest began when he allegedly stole the Amazon truck that had stopped on South Fruit Street in Concord.

The suspect was taken into custody after a brief battle with officers -- and the K9.

Police received a call or calls reporting the theft, and they spoke with a representative of Amazon who provided updates on the truck’s location as it traveled toward Route I-93, and eventually got on the interstate headed south, according to reports.

State troopers soon spotted the truck, which was reportedly going about 70 mph as it went through the Hooksett toll plaza.

State police dispatchers notified police in several towns of the pursuit, and to ready their spike strips in case the driver decided to exit the interstate.

As the pursuit crossed into Manchester, the driver took the Wellington Road exit, at which point Manchester officers joined the pursuit.

The driver reportedly turned onto side streets in the northern part of the city before turning north onto Elm Street.

The man's identity has not yet been released.

But as he passed Bennington Road, the driver ran out of road where Elm Street comes to a dead-end.

Troopers and Manchester officers surrounded the truck, and with their firearms drawn, ordered the driver to come out. After several minutes elapsed, the K9 was sent in, at which time the driver exited the truck.

Once outside, the man allegedly resisted officers’ attempts to arrest him, prompting them to release the K9, which effectively ended the struggle.
