Eight-division parade, wreath-placing ceremonies set for Nashua’s Veterans Day observance
NASHUA — Prayer services at several monuments that stand in solemn tribute to Nashua’s war veterans will kick off today’s citywide Veterans Day observance, which will feature an eight-division parade and remarks by Speaker of the Day Ed Lecius.
The series of events will take place under the direction of longtime Nashuan Richard “Dick” Mohrmann, who has been appointed this year’s grand marshal.
The events begin at 8 a.m. and will wind down at the Elm Street Middle School, where members of Post 483, Veterans of Foreign Wars, will provide refreshments for parade participants.
In the event of inclement weather, memorial services will be held in the Elm Street school.
According to Mohrmann, “all officers, and enlisted men and women, of the Armed Forces of the United States are cordially invited to participate in the parade.”
All individuals, groups and vehicles taking part in the parade should arrive at Holman Stadium by 10:15 Friday morning for parade formation.
Marchers, led by Nashua police motorcycles, will step off promptly at 11:11 a.m., in accordance with the “eleventh minute of the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month” symbolism of the signing of the Armistice that ended World War I.
The parade will exit Holman Stadium, turn left onto Amherst Street, head east to Library Hill, bear right and head south on Main Street, then take a right onto Lake Street, and disband at Elm Street Middle School, where marchers will await the order for dismissal.
