Hudson crossing guard struck by car recovering from injuries
Gary Rodgers, 65, of Windham
HUDSON — Well-known longtime Hudson resident Gary Rodgers, now of Windham, continues to recover from minor injuries he sustained when he was struck by a car while working as a school crossing guard near Alvirne High School.
Rodgers, 65, a retired fire captain and former chairman of the Hudson School Board, was attempting to stop traffic on Derry Road, which is Route 102, when he was struck and knocked down in the road, police said.
The car, a 2019 Chevrolet Malibu, was being driven by Jennifer Zeleneski, 36, of Nashua, police said. She was not injured. Police didn’t say whether any charges were, or may be, filed in connection with the collision.
They did say the incident remains under investigation.
Rodgers was hired as a crossing guard in mid-September.
Police said calls began coming in around 7:10 a.m. from people reporting one of the school’s crossing guards had been struck by a vehicle.
Rodgers was treated at the scene then transported by Hudson Fire Department ambulance to St. Joseph Hospital in Nashua for evaluation with what police described as “apparent minor injuries.”
Hudson police issued a reminder to the motoring public “to use caution and obey reduced speed limits when driving in school zones … often there are crossing guards” directing traffic and children walking near the school and crossing the roads.
