The younger man, identified by police as Manchester resident Tyrese Harris, age 22, allegedly pulled out a gun and fired at the older man, 45-year-old Dzemal Cardakovic, said to be a Londonderry resident and a native of Bosnia who came to the U.S. about 20 years ago.
Cardakovic collapsed in the street a few yards from his tractor cab. Life-saving efforts were unsuccessful; he was pronounced deceased at the scene, according to a statement from the office of Attorney General John Formella and Manchester police Chief Allan Aldenberg.
Come Sunday morning, Formella and Aldenberg announced that Harris had been arrested and was in custody, charged with two counts of second-degree murder. One count accuses Harris of “knowingly causing the death of Dzemal Cardakovic by shooting him with a firearm; the second count accuses him of causing Cardakovic’s death “under circumstances manifesting an extreme indifference to the value of human life” by shooting him with a firearm.
Harris was booked on the charges and ordered held in jail pending arraignment, a date for which has not yet been scheduled by the court, Formella said.

Suspects held in jail are typically arraigned on the next business day, which in this case would be this morning in Hillsborough County Superior Court North.
Indications are that the two drivers may have been involved in a road-rage episode just before the fatal confrontation, but that hasn’t been confirmed by investigators.
Formella’s statement did say that “multiple witnesses” called to report a person had been shot in the road, and first-arriving officers and medical personnel found a man, later identified as Cardakovic, unresponsive in the street suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.
The subsequent closure of South Willow Street at the main access road to the mall, which is across from the intersection of South Willow and Kaye streets, gridlocked the already heavy traffic well into Saturday evening as officers and detectives conducted their on-scene investigation.
