NASHUA — Officers and detectives today are continuing their investigation into the downtown Nashua shooting that sent an as-yet unidentified man to the hospital early Sunday morning.

According to several witnesses to the incident, a man and a woman were arguing outside of 28 Railroad Square shortly after 1 a.m., and at some point the man allegedly spit at the woman.

Another man who was nearby and is believed to have seen the first man allegedly spit at the woman reportedly brandished a gun and allegedly fired three shots at the first man, the first of which struck him in the chest, while the second round hit the man in the arm.

The third shot, according to witnesses, was allegedly fired while the man was walking away, and struck him in the leg.

Nashua police Sgt. Robert Goodwin said later Sunday that patrol officers and emergency medical personnel were dispatched to Railroad Square for a report of shots fired at that location.

Goodwin said he couldn’t elaborate on the nature of the scene officers found upon arrival, nor could he say whether investigators have a suspect in mind or are actively searching for a person or persons in connection with the incident.

He did say there’s no reason to believe there is any threat to the public, an indication that police don’t consider the incident random.

Goodwin added that detectives are currently involved in what he termed an ongoing, active investigation.

Meanwhile, residents of the four-story Laton House, the first floor of which is occupied by businesses and a Vietnamese restaurant, watched later Sunday morning as uniformed officers and detectives conducted their investigation within a small cordoned-off area along a walkway and the street.
