(Photo by STATE POLICE) A Warner firefighter douses remaining hot spots in the Toyota Prius that rolled over and burst into flames on I-89 in Warner, after the driver lost control due to a medical problem, police said.

WARNER — A 41-year-old man from Warner who police say lost control of his vehicle on I-89 after experiencing a medical problem was rescued by “numerous good Samaritans” after the car burst into flames on the side of the road.

Zachary Brock was driving south on I-89 shortly before noon when he was stricken, which caused his Toyota Prius to veer to the left, strike a guardrail numerous times, then veer across the turnpike, where it left the road and struck an embankment, police said.

The impact caused the vehicle to roll over and burst into flames, police added.

The several people who stopped to help before the arrival of state police troopers managed to pull Brock from the burning vehicle, which the flames eventually reduced to a blackened, unrecognizable shell.

Police said upon the arrival of first responders, Brock was transported to Concord Hospital for treatment of his injuries, the nature and severity of which police didn’t describe.

The southbound side of I-89 was closed for a period of time as firefighters extinguished the blaze. One lane was reopened a short time later, police said.

Representatives from the state Fire Marshal’s office and the New Hampshire Forest Service responded to the scene along with state troopers, Warner police and Warner Fire and Rescue.
