State Voter Confidence panel meets this evening at Nashua City Hall

By Dean Shalhoup - Senior Staff Writer | Aug 15, 2022

NASHUA — The New Hampshire Special Committee on Voter Confidence, formed several months ago as a bipartisan effort to address and discuss with the public the decline in voter confidence, is hosting a public session this evening from 5-8:30 p.m. at City Hall.

Zoom will carry only the audio of the event, which will take place in City Hall’s third-floor auditorium. Area residents with any questions or concerns about the state of the voting process in New Hampshire are urged to attend.

The session, one of several such events the committee is hosting in locations across the state ahead of November’s midterm elections, will feature presentations by state Democratic Committee Chairman Raymond Buckley and Republican State Committee counsel William O’Brien.

Their presentations will be followed by a public comment period.

Secretary of State David Scanlan formed the committee in April as a “bipartisan effort to discuss and address growing concerns about declines in voter confidence.

“Our challenge is to make the process more transparent, help people understand it, so that there is no mystery,” Scanlan told New Hampshire Public Radio in April.

“If we can do that, it is much harder to create a situation where people can claim conspiracies,” he added.

The committee operates in an advisory role, and does not have the authority to change election laws.

Its chief mission is to help residents understand the current voting system, and to “listen, pose questions and engage with the public to identify recommendations to address the growing concerns about declines in voter confidence.”
