American Legion Band up next Aug. 16

NASHUA – A free program of “SummerFun” hosted by local sponsors and the City of Nashua includes a Tuesday evening music series, 7-9 p.m. at Greeley Park.

The series is slated to continue with an Aug. 16 performance by the American Legion Band, an event designed to honor veterans.

The rain date for the performance is Aug. 17.

Some recent performances of note at the Concord Street bandshell included Suavo Duo on July 12 and Monadnock on July 19, along with Sanachie on July 26.

The Amherst Town Band was the Aug. 9 performer.

Elise West, a Goffstown resident and a member of Monadnock bluegrass band for 15 years, recently said members are booked for the upcoming 145th Deerfield Fair, an agricultural family fair in Deerfield New Hampshire presented Sept. 29 through Oct. 2.

“We all love to play this music together with guitarist Bob Pope who has been in the band for 30 years,” West said.

“You meet lots of new fans and have lots of fun.”

The audience on the evening when Monadnock performed included some area musicians, local friends of those on stage. Roland Young, of Hooksett, is a former bass player with Monadnock.

Nashua residents Al Lafrance, a bass player, and Patrick Belanger, guitarist, as well as Tony Karakla, a resident of Penacook, are active with Old Time Pickers and other groups.

Meanwhile, amid the sounds of bluegrass last month, area parents Jay and Jessica Clair watched daughter Cora, age 8, and sons Callan, age 5, and Connor, 3, dancing with

abandon.

“These events let the kids hear new music and also give them a chance to make new friends,” Jessica Clair said.
