As the investigation into her stabbing death continues, family, friends remember Julie Graichen as a talented performer with a ‘creative, magnetic personality’

NASHUA — So proficient was Julie Graicien at spinning modified versions of vintage kids’ hula hoops, sometimes many at a time, often with colorful streamers flowing behind, that she was best known by her army of followers on social media as “Julie Hoops.”

Graichen, whose performances included some of downtown Nashua’s music and art festivals over the years, was born in Derry but called Nashua home for most of her life, which ended unexpectedly and tragically last Friday, allegedly at the hands of a 30-year-old man named Jose Ramirez-Vasquez, who lived in one of the four apartments at 13 Kinsley St., the same building in which police and first responders found Graichen deceased from stab wounds to the chest.

Now, as they come to terms with their loss, those close to the 34-year-old Nashua High School North graduate are hosting a period of visitation Friday evening at the Davis Funeral Home, followed by an 11 a.m. funeral service on Saturday. (See the full obituary posted today for times and additional information).

Meanwhile, Ramirez-Vasquez, who waived formal arraignment on Monday, is being held in jail without bail as his case moves forward in Hillsborough County Superior Court South.

Initial police statements identified him as Miguel Ramirez, but that was later corrected.

Ramirez-Vasquez’s next court date hasn’t yet been scheduled, according to his case summary. The state has 90 days for a grand jury to indict him on one count of second-degree murder, the only charge he faces to date.
