MANCHESTER – Firefighters in Manchester battled a three-alarm blaze with heavy smoke conditions on Beach Street Tuesday afternoon.

Several pets were rescued from the fire, which was reported around noon Tuesday.

AMR Ambulance set up several ambulances to offer medical aid to the residents and firefighters. MFD Battalion Chief David Fleury said that two firefighters were treated for heat exhaustion, and one for a shoulder injury. The firefighters did not require transport to the hospital by ambulance. One resident of an adjacent building suffered from breathing difficulties, and they were transported to the hospital by AMR. Firefighters cut a trench in the roof to stop the fire from spreading to the ringside of the building.

Firefighters were able to reunite several pets with their owners. Several cats, a reptile and a guinea pig were rescued. The fire is being investigated by the Manchester Fire Marshal’s Office, and the Manchester Police. The cause of the fire has not been determined at this time.
