Former St. Anselm VP of finance pleads guilty to embezzling $66,000 from the college

Renee Crawford, 35, of Danville

CONCORD — A 35-year-old Danville resident who until recently served as St. Anselm College’s assistant vice president of finance and its executive director of budget and planning has agreed to enter a guilty plea to federal charges accusing her of stealing more than $66,000 from the college, the office of U.S. Attorney Jane E. Young said Monday.

Renee Crawford, a former Bedford resident and high school and college field hockey star who also served as the goalkeeper coach for St. Anselm’s field hockey team for a number of years, is accused of submitting fraudulent invoices for a company that she created, and as a result received more than $44,000 in payments from the college, which she used for personal purchases.

She also is charged with using two college-issued credit cards to pay for family vacations and purchase theme park tickets, which officials said added up to roughly $22,000.

Crawford is currently scheduled to be sentenced on Nov. 14 in federal court. Indications are that the terms of her sentencing will order her to repay the entire amount she is accused of stealing.

Officials said Crawford, in her role in the college’s finance and budget departments, “had authority to manage invoice approvals, enter vendor information, and had oversight of the finance office’s credit card program.”

The case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Goffstown Police Department. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney John J. Kennedy.
