NASHUA — Members of the Nashua police Criminal Investigations Division were called to the scene to join the department’s Collision Reconstruction Unit in the investigation of a crash that claimed the life of a 44-year-old man early Saturday morning.
Police didn’t identify the man, nor did they say why criminal division personnel were brought in to further the investigation. They did say that it doesn’t appear that drugs or alcohol were factors in the crash.
Patrol officers were dispatched to the area of 410 Amherst St. shortly before 2:30 Saturday morning in response to reports of a crash involving a single vehicle, police said.
Officers located the car, a dark-colored, 2-door compact, in the parking lot of the Birch Pond Office Park, a cluster of three office buildings next door to Bertucci’s restaurant and across Amherst Street from Bellwether Credit Union, which is just west of the Amherst Street-Somerset Parkway intersection.
The vehicle, which came to rest in the front of the parking lot closest to Amherst Street, showed heavy damage, and left various vehicle parts and debris in its wake.

Police cordoned off a section of the parking lot, and later in the day Saturday investigators were seen taking measurements, notes and photos on a grassy island between a damaged stone wall and a large tree as the department’s Crime Scene Investigation van sat parked nearby.
Police said the victim was pronounced deceased at the scene, shortly after police, firefighters and ambulance personnel arrived.
As the investigation continues, police ask anyone who may have witnessed the crash, or may have additional information, to contact headquarters at 594-3500 or call the Crime Line at 589-1665.
