NASHUA — State police said yesterday that the pedestrian struck by a car and killed on the Everett Turnpike at Exit 6 late Wednesday night was wanted by police as a walk away from a Manchester halfway house.
Roland Labbe, 67, was pronounced deceased at the scene of the collision, which occurred shortly before 11 p.m. on the southbound side of the turnpike at Exit 6, the Broad Street exit.
Police said troopers who responded to the scene confirmed the victim’s identity as Labbe, who they described as “a recent walk away from the Calumet House in Manchester.”
The driver of the car that struck Labbe was identified by police as Saly Kruth, 53, of Lowell. Kruth, who was driving a 2006 Toyota Corolla, was taken to Southern New Hampshire Medical Center for evaluation, police added.
According to Nashua Patch, Labbe signed out of the Calumet last week to search for employment, but failed to return at the scheduled time.
Labbe had been incarcerated on charges of aggravated felonious sexual assault and kidnapping dating back to 1996, according to the Patch report.
Police said they closed the Exit 6 southbound on-ramp and two travel lanes for about four hours while members of the state police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Unit conducted an on-scene investigation.
All aspects of the crash are currently being investigated, police said. They ask anyone who may have witnessed the crash, or has any additional information, to contact Trooper Christopher Pieniazek at 223-4381 or Christopher.J.Pieniazek@dos.nh.gov.
