Return of Taste of Downtown Nashua features plenty of options for all kinds of different ‘tastes’

By Dean Shalhoup - Senior Staff Writer | Jun 9, 2022

(Telegraph photo by DEAN SHALHOUP) Mark McCabe, of Subzero Nitrogen Ice Cream, amuses a visitor with a bowl of vapor created by flash-freezing ingredients with liquid nitrogen, which turns them into ice cream in moments. McCabe was set up inside Camaraderie for Wednesday's Taste of Downtown Nashua.

NASHUA — Ice cream lovers of all sizes, shapes and ages watched wide-eyed as Mark McCabe filled a bowl with cream and syrups of various colors, then signaled a helper to twist the knob on a nearby tank.

With McCabe narrating each step, the ingredients in the bowl suddenly seemed to erupt, pushing up a cloud of white vapor that floated over the table where McCabe worked.

McCabe, who operates the Sub Zero Nitrogen Ice Cream shop at 83 Main St., set up in the front window of the women’s clothing boutique Camaraderie for Wednesday evening’s Taste of Downtown Nashua, a Great American Downtown event that returned this year after a two-year absence due to the pandemic.

The Taste “hasn’t happened since 2019, and we are thrilled to be back,” GAD executive director Carolyn Walley, who is in her third month at the helm of the organization, wrote on its website.

A full story on the event, with additional photos, will appear in The Sunday Telegraph.
