MANCHESTER – Waypoint’s SleepOut 2022, held March 25, raised over $313,000, and counting, to help youth who are homeless or housing insecure, and to work toward ending youth homelessness in New Hampshire.
The event was held remotely; 270 people from across the state slept in their own backyards or congregated at locations of their choosing, and conducted fundraising campaigns online. Sleepers came together online for a livestream event that featured Governor Chris Sununu, and told the story of a young person who was receiving services and would soon be getting his first apartment. The presentation also featured Waypoint staff who revealed the agency’s plans for expansion of services in three areas of the state.
Proceeds from the SleepOut are currently at work supportng Waypoint’s services to young people experiencing homelessness, including street outreach, basic needs relief, crisis care, case management, the Youth Resource Center in Manchester, and rapid and transitional housing throughout the state. As well, funds will subsidize the agency’s expansion of services, which includes outreach and drop-in centers in Rochester and Concord, and New Hampshire’s first overnight shelter for young people, in Manchester.
“Especially in light of all that is going on in the world around us,” says Borja Alvarez de Toledo, president and CEO of Waypoint, “we are beyond grateful to live in a community that stays on mission, helping one another through even the most challenging times. On behalf of our board, staff, and those we serve, we thank Granite Staters for helping to bring New Hampshire’s most vulnerable youth closer to home.”
