Arraignment set for today for suspect in Tuesday’s 4-hour standoff in Hudson

HUDSON — Nicholas Kotsonas, the 50-year-old Hudson man who allegedly greeted officers with threatening statements when they arrived at his Griffin Road home Tuesday to check on a report of a domestic incident, was eventually taken into custody and held in jail overnight pending today’s scheduled arraignment.

Police said officers, while enroute to 7 Griffin Road, were informed that a resident of the house had “multiple outstanding bench warrants for his arrest” pending.

Following the brief encounter with police, Kotsonas allegedly barricaded himself inside the house, at which time the officers exited to await the arrival of the Southern New Hampshire Special Operations Unit, which had been summoned to the scene.

Police didn’t say whether the special operations personnel were in contact with Kotsonas via phone or other means during the ensuing standoff, or if they used tactics such as teargas or similar devices.

They did say that the standoff lasted about four hours, coming to an end when officers took him into custody.

Kotsonas was transported to police headquarters, where he was booked on the charges — all of which are misdemeanor-level offenses.

They include three counts of criminal threatening; one count of resisting arrest or detention; and three electronic bench warrants.

Police didn’t specify the charges on which the warrants were issued.

Kotsonas, who refused the services of a bail commissioner, was transported to Valley Street jail pending today’s arraignment.
