‘Thank you’ from Dr. Crisp

By CHERRIE FULTON - Special to The Sunday Telegraph | Apr 9, 2022

The COVID-19 pandemic brought uncertainty. Each day bringing a new question to answer about a new worry. A new concern about everyday living and going to school.

The certainty for us at Dr. Norman W. Crisp Elementary School, as we came to learn and appreciate during the pandemic, was tangible in the love and support from many Nashuans.

The Dr. Crisp School community would like to take this opportunity to express our thanks and gratitude to Nashua community members. We are so fortunate because whenever our students or families needed help, Nashua steps up and provides any way they can. We would like to acknowledge the following agencies and citizens for always being there when Dr. Crisp needs help, especially during the pandemic:

• End 68 Hours of Hunger helps throughout the school year and the summer providing food and school supplies to our families.

• The Salvation Army of Nashua and the Nashua Soup Kitchen & Shelter provide clothes, food, school supplies, furniture, emergency funds, shelter referrals and Christmas support.

• Rivier University provided multiple Thanksgiving baskets and turkeys to our families.

• The Arlington Street Community Center donates food, clothing, school supplies, free events throughout the year, Halloween costumes, Christmas trees and gifts and car seat coats.

• The Nashua Police Athletic League provided school snacks, winter coats, bicycles and Christmas support as well as school supplies.

• St. Joseph Hospital provided school snack and Christmas help.

• Grow Nashua set up and helped to run our garden project, supplying all of the needed items.

• The Well Church provided school supplies, welcome baskets for our staff, donations to fund student activities (field trips), and help to clean up our grounds each fall and spring.

• The Nashua Presbyterian Church provided homework kits for Grade 1 each year.

• The Arlington Street Methodist Church provided school supplies and Christmas support.

• The United Way of Nashua provided “hot spots” and Chrome books during the height of the pandemic and tremendous support for our teachers with “goody bags,” positive door greetings, and school supplies for their classrooms.

• The Unitarian Universalist Church sent us warm winter clothing for our children.

• Pratt Place donated 70 sleeping bags to keep our children safe and warm.

• Lastly, retired staff members come back year after year to help collect food, sort clothes, and donate to the needs of our families.

Each year Dr. Crisp Elementary does a give-back project for our community. It is a small way to give thanks for the love and support we receive all year long. This year our Student Council decided on a project, called birthday-in-a-box. The council assigned each grade level a birthday item to collect and the council put together packages to donate to The Salvation Army in Nashua with handmade birthday cards.

• Kindergarteners “Taped up the Love in Nashua” with gift wrapping supplies.

• Grade 1 “Decorated Nashua with Happiness” with items like balloons, party hats, streamers.

• Grade 2 “Lit up a Smile in Nashua” with birthday candles.

• Grade 3 “Sprinkled Nashua in Kindness” with containers of sprinkles.

• Grade 4 “Spread the Cheer in Nashua” with containers of frosting.

• Grade 5 “Mix Up Nashua with Happiness” with boxes of cake mix.

Thank you, Nashua, for always being there to support Dr. Norman W. Crisp Elementary School!
