NASHUA — The already tight intersection of Lowell and Orange streets proved a little too tight for the driver of the tractor-trailer unit that witnesses say snapped a utility pole while trying to negotiate the intersection.

Shortly after emergency crews arrived at the intersection around 8 a.m., police radioed a be-on-the-lookout (BOLO) to city officers and area police departments for the tractor-trailer, which they described as white in color with the word “Transam” on the side and the number 25761 on the trailer.

Police said the tractor-trailer may show damage along the drivers side.

Meanwhile, crews arriving at the scene reported the utility pole on the northwest corner of the intersection had been shattered at its base, and broken in two about four feet off the ground.

The top portion of the pole was found hanging from the wires, cables and transformer that were affixed to the pole. Utility crews from Eversource and other utility companies determined the police needed to be replaced, a project that took most of the day and caused moderate traffic backups on both Lowell and Orange streets.

No power outages occurred as a result of the incident, but some electric customers in the area reported power fluctuations, which may have been triggered by crews’ ongoing repair work.

Police ask anyone who may have witnessed the incident, or who may have more information, to contact police headquarters at 594-3500.
