MANCHESTER — At the same time police were investigating a shots-fired call on Silver Street near Hall Street early Sunday morning, officers suddenly heard shots ring out from the area of Union and Harvard streets during what became a busy overnight shift that lasted into Sunday.

The series of incidents began at about 4:20 a.m., when police units were dispatched to Silver Street near Hall after the department received multiple reports of shots fired at that location.

A witness said a car and a building were struck by gunshots, but that account wasn’t confirmed by police.

A short time later, police Sgt. Richard Brown confirmed a report that officers heard gunfire coming from the Union-Harvard streets area, and upon arrival they set up a perimeter and closed off streets to traffic.

Police found multiple shell casings on Union Street between Harvard and Hayward streets.

Just before 5 a.m., police received a call from Catholic Medical Center advising them that a man suffering from an apparent gunshot wound had been brought into the hospital.

The age and condition of the man weren’t immediately known.

Later Sunday morning, sections of Union Street remained closed to traffic, and the area was cordoned off with yellow crime scene tape. Inside the taped off areas, detectives conducted an on-scene investigation, setting up evidence markers and gathering other evidence.

Brown said at the time that it wasn’t yet known whether the activity at the three scenes was related.

On Friday night, meanwhile, several streets were closed off in the area of Notre Dame Avenue and Hecker Street, the result of multiple shots being fired at buildings.

A resident of one of the buildings confirmed the building was struck by gunfire multiple times at around 9 p.m.

According to the police dispatch log posted online, there was a call for “gunshot heard” on Bodwell Road just before 1 a.m. Friday, and about 15 minutes later another “gunshot heard” call was logged for the area of Elm and Lowell streets.

Information posted on the dispatch log indicates only that police were sent to investigate a call or report, and whether shots were actually fired is not known.

Police have confirmed, meanwhile, that detectives are interviewing people and gathering evidence at both the Silver Street and Union Street scenes.
