CONCORD — A former TV, radio and newspaper reporter has been named the new strategic communications administrator at the Department of Safety, DOS Commissioner Robert Quinn announced.

Tyler P. Dumont, a native of Dracut, Massachusetts, joins the department with more than a decade of media experience, including stints at media outlets in Oregon, Rhode Island, Vermont, Massachusetts as well as New Hampshire.

The strategic communications administrator serves as the DOS public information officer, Quinn said.

Dumont replaces Paul D. Raymond Jr., who was confirmed as the DOS Director of Security & Training in October.

“I am hopeful the skills, experience and relationships I developed in my journalism career will be an asset to both the department and members of the media as I work to grow and strengthen our communications with the public,” Dumont said in a statement.

As strategic communications administrator, Dumont will work under the direction of assistant commissioner Eddie Edwards in directing the development and dissemination of all appropriate public information on behalf of the Department of Safety, according to Quinn.

The position is also tasked with planning short and long term communication goals, as well as developing and implementing communication initiatives and programs to coordinate and promote strategic messaging at all levels internal and external to the department,” Quinn added.
