On Feb. 14, the Teachers and Paws Program (TAPP) delivered 27 PAWsitivity Kits to the teachers at Fairgrounds Elementary School.

In an effort to augment studies in positive character traits, Arlene Agosto De Kane, FES home-school coordinator, and Lisa Stempler, FES parent educator, approached TAPP and accepted the kits on behalf of Fairgrounds Elementary School teachers.

“Thank you to TAPP for these amazing, high quality books and materials,” said Michael Harrington, principal at Fairgrounds Elementary School. “Many of our students are dog lovers and this is a great way to engage interest and open discussion and learning to promote kindness and support the mental health of our students and staff.”

The PAWsitivity Kits are comprehensive kits, filled with lesson overview, procedures and plans with defined objectives, delivery, prompts and all materials and supplies, including books and copies of handouts. Grade-specific kits were developed, one for grades K-2 and one grades 3-5, to teach lessons in kindness, empathy and compassion, by teaching awareness of our natural environment, including animal life.

“Each kit is stand-alone,” said Mary Doherty, TAPP founder/president. “The lessons are great life lessons, which is what TAPP is all about.”

For more information about TAPP, visit www.teachersandpaws.org/united-way. Doherty welcomes questions about possible participation, and can be reached at 617-416-7623.
