MANCHESTER — An as yet unidentified man suffering from serious leg injuries was trapped in his car for some 45 minutes Sunday morning, the result of a head-on crash that occurred around 10 a.m. in the area of 1600 Front St. (Route 3A), about a half-mile south of the Hooksett town line and just down the road from Manchester Fire Station 4.
The man suffered what were described as serious, but not life-threatening, injuries. The other driver, also unidentified, declined medical treatment and remained at the scene.
Crews determined upon arrival that the man would have to be extricated from the wreckage of the vehicle, prompting command personnel to call in the department’s Rescue 1 truck.
Several firefighters set up the hydraulic rescue equipment, including cutting tools and spreading devices, and went to work to remove the driver’s side doors and other spots that needed to be opened up to reach the driver and remove him.
During the rescue operation, other firefighters and medical personnel communicated with the man and covered him with a large blanket to protect him from stray pieces of glass and metal.

During the process, AMR personnel requested a trauma team activation, and once the man was freed he was transported to a local hospital for treatment.
Front Street was closed for over an hour in both directions.
Police are investigating the circumstances of the crash.
