Nashua police announce series of promotions

NASHUA — Several Nashua Police Department officers were promoted during Monday’s ceremony held at the department.

Those promoted, their ranks and some background on each of them follow.

* Clark Gaphardt, promoted to captain. Born and raised in Chelmsford, Massachusetts. Honorably discharged from the U.S. Marine Corps in 2004 as a sergeant. He was named Marine of the year in 2000. In 2004 he received his bachelors degree in Business Administration from Rivier University. He is currently working toward a masters degree. He was hired by the Nashua Police Department in 2004 and prior to that he worked for the Dover Police Department for just under 3 years.

Gaphardt has been assigned to many positions during his career in Nashua, including patrol, detective in the Narcotics Intelligence Division, Special Investigation Division, Domestic Violence Unit, and the Professional Standards Bureau. Gaphardt will be assigned as the first shift commander of the Uniformed Field Operations Bureau.

* Dan Ostler was promoted to the rank of lieutenant. He was born and raised in Billerica, Massachusetts. He received his bachelors degree in criminal justice from St. Anselm College in 2004. Later in 2004 he was hired by the Nashua Police Department. He has been assigned to many positions during his NPD career. They include Patrol, Problem Oriented Policing Unit, detective in the Criminal Investigation Division, Special Investigation Division, Narcotics Intelligence Division, and as a prosecutor in the Legal Bureau. Ostler will be assigned to the Legal Bureau in his new rank of lieutenant.

* Charles MacGregor was promoted to the rank of lieutenant. He was born and raised in Bedford, Massachusetts. In 2005 he graduated from Northeastern University with a bachelors degree in Criminal Justice. Later in 2005 he was hired by the Nashua Police Department. He has been assigned to many positions at the Police Department, including Patrol, Domestic Violence Unit, detective in the Criminal Investigation Division and Special Investigation Division. He will be assigned as the third shift lieutenant in the Uniformed Field Operations Bureau.

* John Cinelli was promoted to the rank of sergeant. He was born and raised in Saugus, Massachusetts. In 2007 he received his bachelors degree in Business Studies Organizational Leadership from Southern New Hampshire University. Later in 2007 he was hired by the Nashua Police Department. He has been assigned many positions at the Nashua Police Department, including Patrol, Professional Standards Bureau as the training officer, Legal Bureau, detective in the Criminal Investigation Division and Special Investigation Division. He will be assigned as a sergeant in the Uniformed Field Operations Bureau.

* Officer Ian Day-Lewis was promoted to the rank of sergeant. He was born and raised in Chelmsford, Massachusetts. In 2004 he received a bachelors degree in Criminal Justice from St. Anselm College. In 2007 he received his masters degree in Justice Administration from Norwich University. In 2009 he was hired by the Nashua Police Department. Prior to his employment with the Nashua Police Department he worked for the Amherst Police Department for five years. He has a total of 17 years of law enforcement experience. He has been assigned many positions at the police department, including Patrol, Problem Oriented Policing Unit, detective in the Narcotics Intelligence Division and Criminal Investigation Division. He will be assigned as a sergeant in the Uniformed Field Operations Bureau.
