Large excavator falls off its trailer in Merrimack; Greeley Street closed for hours
MERRIMACK — Greeley Street was closed for several hours throughout Wednesday, after a large excavator fell off its trailer while the driver of the tow vehicle was making a turn.
The tow vehicle, a dump truck, was traveling north on Daniel Webster Highway when, at about 11:30 a.m., the unidentified driver began taking a left-hand turn onto Greeley Street.
In the midst of the turn, the excavator rolled off of the trailer the dump truck was towing, and landed on its side on the edge of Greeley Street.
The trailer remained upright and attached to the tow vehicle.
Merrimack firefighters, police, and state police troopers responded to the scene. They determined that the driver of the dump truck was uninjured, and did not require medical attention.
Merrimack firefighters mitigated the fluids leaking from the excavator and closed Greeley Street.
Two of the area’s largest tow companies, Bailey and Duval’s, were called to the scene to upright the excavator. The 20-ton excavator was lifted and turned over. The tow companies lifted it onto the trailer and properly secured it.
New Hampshire DOT assisted at the scene and assessed the damage to the pavement. State Police highway enforcement is investigating the accident.
