MILFORD — A 30-year-old woman from Manchester suffered what are believed to be serious, life-threatening injuries Thursday morning when the 2022 Kia she was driving west on Route 101 collided with a large commercial truck near the off-ramps to Route 101A.

According to Milford police Capt. Craig Frye, Brandy Lawrence’s vehicle crossed the double yellow line and sideswiped the truck, described as a 2020 Kenworth TK-T370, demolishing the car and seriously injuring Lawrence.

Milford, Amherst and state police, along with Milford firefighters and ambulance personnel and representatives of the state Department of Transportation responded to the scene of the crash, which occurred at about 8 a.m. near the off-ramps, which handle traffic entering and exiting Route 101 from Route 101A near the Milford-Amherst town line.

The driver of the truck, Luis Amadeo, 59, of Temple, sustained minor injuries, and was transported to a local hospital where he was treated and later released, Frye said.

The name of the Milford-based business “MD’s Recycling & Waste Removal” is written on the doors of the truck, which was carrying a large metal dumpster-like container at the time of the crash.

Rush-hour traffic was snarled in both directions on Route 101, causing lengthy delays for motorists. Detours were set up when police closed a section of the road to allow for an on-scene investigation, for which police requested representatives of state police Troop G, which is the department’s commercial vehicle enforcement division.
