Chanukah begins today with menorah lighting at State House

By Staff | Nov 28, 2021

MANCHESTER — Chabad Lubavitch will ignite a public 13-foot menorah erected at the State House in Concord at 3:30 p.m. today, the first night of Chanukah, which begins on Nov. 28 and runs through Dec. 6. The ceremony will begin with lighting the first light on the menorah using a hydraulic lift to reach the lanterns. Following the menorah lighting ceremony Chanukah songs will be sung and in conjunction with the Jewish Federation and PJ Library, a kids craft will be made, and sufganiyot and hot chocolate will be available for enjoyment.

Rabbi Levi Krinsky remarked, “The Menorah serves as a symbol of New Hampshire’s dedication to preserve and encourage the right and liberty of all its citizens to worship G-d freely, openly, and with pride. Specifically in America, a nation that was founded upon and vigorously protects the right of every person to practice his or her religion free from restraint and persecution, the Menorah takes on profound significance, embodying both religious and constitutional principles.”

New Hampshire’s menorah is one of thousands of large public menorahs sponsored by Chabad throughout the world, helping children and adults of all walks of life discover and enjoy the holiday message.
