Generous spirit at Main Dunstable Elementary School

By Kelley Paradis - Special to The Telegraph | Nov 27, 2021

In the celebrated spirit of the Thanksgiving season, Main Dunstable Elementary School, home of the Blue Hawks, would like to thank our supportive families and the Main Dunstable Elementary School PTO! The 2021 Hawk Walk started on a crisp fall morning and gave way to a day warmed by sunny skies and children’s smiles.

Since its inception in 2016, the annual Hawk Walks have raised over $130,000 to help fund initiatives at Main Dunstable Elementary School, such as family events, children’s programming, field trips, technology, and a new playground.

This year’s event, held last month, was again highly successful in bringing our school community together, with students throughout the day gathering by grade level and participating in the Hawk Walk walk-a-thon around the school grounds and adjacent sports field. Although, and maybe in spite of the fact that the COVID-19 pandemic is still very much with us, this year’s Hawk Walk participants displayed exceptional enthusiasm.

Tokyo Joe’s of Nashua kicked off the day and captivated the students with high-energy exercises to bolster self-discipline and self-confidence. A balloon archway, donated by Dan’s Balloons of Nashua, a bubble machine, and spirited music served as a backdrop for a fun-filled day.

Donned in matching T-shirts, staff and students look forward to Hawk Walk each year as an opportunity to capture school spirit and unity, but the Blue Hawk staff and MD PTO also fully understand and appreciate the funding the event generates so very graciously.

“I LOVE this day for the kids,” said Erin Keene-Crouse, chairperson for the last three Hawk Walks. “It’s a chance for them to see themselves as ONE school. I’ve seen them running/walking/skipping with the person close next to them, with pride in their eyes when families volunteer, and awe when they see their teachers joining in the fun.”

“The grown-ups know all of the work to keep a school functioning properly,” added Keene-Crouse. “The kids don’t need those details. They need to know it is a fun, supportive, brave and loving environment for the one school – the community – made up of hundreds of amazing individuals.

“It’s always such a fun day but this year just felt so much more impactful, special and critical for them to experience.”
