NASHUA — No humans were injured but unfortunately two pets lost their lives when fire broke out Friday morning at a home at 34 Taschereau Boulevard, officials said.

Nashua Fire Rescue Deputy Chief James Kirk said the department began receiving a series of calls shortly before 11 a.m. reporting flames and smoke coming from the two-story home.

The crew of Engine 3, along with Fire Marshal Adam Pouliot, were first to arrive at the scene, where they were greeted by heavy smoke coming from the house, Kirk said.

A working fire assignment was called, bringing additional apparatus to the scene. In all, four engine companies, two ladder trucks and command officers responded to the fire, Kirk said.

Crews upon arrival began searching the house for any occupants while others used ladders to access the roof to open holes to vent the fire.

Nobody was home at the time of the fire, except the two pets that Kirk said perished.

Firefighters succeeded in bringing the fire under control within an hour. The house sustained significant heat and smoke damage throughout, Kirk said.

He added that smoke detectors were present, but whether they were operating is part of the investigation, which is under the direction of the Fire Marshal’s office.
