CONCORD — With the public celebration of life set for Wednesday at Southern New Hampshire University Arena in Manchester for fallen state police Staff Sgt. Jesse Sherrill, Gov. Chris Sununu has extended his order to fly flags on all public buildings and grounds at half-staff through sunset Wednesday.

The celebration of Sherrill’s life at the SNHU Arena, 555 Elm St., begins at 11 a.m. and is open to the public.

A burial service that will follow the celebration of life is private and not open to the public.

State police officials ask that all correspondence for members of Sherrill’s family be sent to Trooper Frank Campo, Director’s Office, 33 Hazen Drive, Concord, 03305.

Donations in Sherrill’s memory can be made to TheGregHillFoundation.org, or sent directly to The Troopers Foundation Account, 107 N. State St., Concord, 03301.

Sherrill, 44, was killed early Thursday morning when his cruiser and a tractor trailer unit collided on Interstate 95 in Portsmouth. Sherrill was working a construction detail at the time.

The driver of the tractor trailer, who hasn’t been identified, sustained minor injuries.

Sherrill’s cruiser was demolished in the crash. He was treated at the scene then rushed to Portsmouth Regional Hospital, but succumbed to his injuries, officials said.

State police Col. Nathan Noyes, gathered with other department commanders at a somber press conference later Thursday, called Sherrill “a ‘trooper’s trooper,’ a consummate, dedicated professional and a true family man.”
