Merrimack man accused of driving drunk, crashing car, damaging police property due in court this week

Taylor Vesey , 32, of 17 Stevens Ave, Merrimack

MERRIMACK — Thirty-two-year-old Merrimack resident Taylor Vesey is due in court Tuesday to face charges stemming from a series of events that began when a witness called police reporting an allegedly intoxicated driver at an establishment that police didn’t name.

The driver, later identified as Vesey, of 17 Stevens Ave., was gone when officers arrived, according to police. But in speaking with the witness, he or she was able to provide the officers with the vehicle’s license plate number, which police said led the officers to the owner’s residence.

There, police said, the officers found a vehicle with “significant damage to the front end” — and still with it was the driver, who they identified as Vesey.

After conducting an initial investigation, the officers arrested Vesey for OUIL — operating under the influence of liquor. Vesey allegedly struggled with the officers during the arrest process, giving rise to a misdemeanor resisting arrest charge. The officers were soon able to place him in custody.

Vesey was transported to police headquarters for booking, and was later released on personal recognizance bail.

But police said they learned a short time later that the damage to Vesey’s vehicle was allegedly the result of a crash involving another vehicle on I-293 in Manchester, which state police troopers were in the process of investigating.

The other driver, police said, sustained injuries in the crash, which prompted police to upgrade Vesey’s OUIL charge to aggravated OUIL.

One more charge — criminal mischief — would be added during the booking process, police said, when Vesey allegedly damaged property belonging to the town. Police didn’t elaborate on the nature of the damaged property.
