HUDSON — The four occupants of a split-level home at 22 Boyd Road managed to escape relatively unscathed from a fast-moving fire that broke out in the residence shortly after 5 p.m. Saturday, officials said.
While three of the four were treated for what officials called mild smoke inhalation and transported to a local hospital for observation, none suffered serious injuries.
The occupants include the homeowners, Norma and Wilmot Dennis, and two others who are believed to be family members.
The fire and smoke damage rendered the house inhabitable, officials said — which actually turned out to be a blessing because about 12 hours after the blaze was brought under control, the house went up in flames, causing damage so extensive that a town public works crew was called in with an excavator to demolish, for safety purposes, what was left of the house.
While fire department Captain Kevin Blinn, the incident commander on duty for both fires, provided additional details of the first one through a press statement, neither local nor state investigators returned calls or emails Sunday requesting an update on the circumstances surrounding the second fire.

In all, five engines, two ladder trucks, three tankers and two ambulances were called to the scene for the first fire. Crews from Nashua, Londonderry and Pelham joined Hudson Engines 1, 2 and 4 and Ladder 2 along with the command staff, on the initial call.
The crew of first-due Engine 1 had knocked down the bulk of the heaviest fire by the time the others arrived.
Crews from many of the same towns returned to Hudson for the second blaze. Hudson Engine 1 was again the first on the scene, and upon arrival reported the house fully involved with fire.
