BEDFORD — Police, firefighters and rescue personnel succeeded early Monday afternoon in a rescue operation that ultimately freed a man who became trapped under his overturned vehicle in a single-car crash.
The man, whose identity wasn’t immediately known, was found underneath the car by Bedford and Manchester firefighters and state police troopers who were called around 1:40 p.m. to the southbound lanes of the Exit 13 off-ramp of the Everett Turnpike.
Only the trapped man’s head was visible when rescuers arrived, witnesses said.
Bedford firefighters requested assistance from the Manchester department, which dispatched a specially-equipped rescue truck to the scene.
In the meantime, Bedford crews were able to lift the vehicle using specially designed air inflation bags, and slide into place cribbing and blocking material to stabilize the vehicle.

They then eased the man from under the car, and administered first aid before taking him to an awaiting ambulance for transport to the Elliot Hospital in Manchester.
The extent, and severity, of the man’s injuries weren’t available as of late Monday.
