AMHERST — A 21-year-old Nashua woman was cited for prohibited use of a mobile device and driving without a valid license over the weekend after the car she was driving crashed into a tree and left her passenger with serious head injuries, police said.

Alexis McDonough was driving west on Thornton Ferry Road 1 when her car left the road and struck a tree at about 2:20 a.m., police said.

McDonough wasn’t injured, police said, but her passenger, a man whose name, town and age they didn’t provide, was rushed to St. Joseph Hospital in Nashua with head injuries that police described as serious and life-threatening.

His current condition wasn’t immediately known.

The crash took place in front of 17 Thornton Ferry Road 1, police said, adding that no other vehicles were involved.
