PORTSMOUTH — Bright sun and perfect temperatures brought about 10,000 cars and 40,000 people to the “Thunder Over New Hampshire” air show, a two-day event held at Pease Air National Guard Base over the weekend.
Dozens of displays were set up by vendors to show their items, sell their services and educate the attendees.
Just before the 10 a.m. start of the air show a memorial service was held to reflect on the 20th anniversary of the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001. A crowd of several hundred gathered to show their respect, and also held a moment of silence.
As many traditional air shows do, the show was kicked off with paratroopers jumping from planes and entertaining the crowd.
The headliner performance by the U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds, which took place in mid-afternoon, stunned the crowd with their maneuvers, speed and “thunder” that gave the show its name.
