CONCORD — A 41-year-old man incarcerated at the State Prison for Men in Concord since 2006 died early Thursday morning after suffering an unspecified medical emergency in his cell, officials said.

Beau Mitchell, who was currently serving lengthy sentences after being convicted of one felony count each of aggravated felonious sexual assault and second-degree assault, had a maximum release date of February 2043, according to a prison spokeswoman.

She said that around 3:15 Thursday morning other inmates alerted Corrections officers that Mitchell appeared to be experiencing a medical emergency.

Officers “responded immediately to Mr. Mitchell,” the spokeswoman said, adding that they called for an ambulance and “provided immediate aid” until emergency responders arrived.

Mitchell was enroute to the hospital in the ambulance when he died.

Mitchell’s death is considered an “untimely death,” the spokeswoman said, adding that “all untimely deaths are investigated in consultation with the state Medical Examiner and state police.”

The incidents of which Mitchell was convicted occurred in the town of Woodstock, court documents show. He was convicted in Grafton County Superior Court in September 2006.
