NASHUA – The 28-year-old man police arrested on a warrant accusing him of possessing child sexual abuse images has initially been charged with 12 counts of the Class A felony offense.

James Kaupelis, of 11 Kessler Farm Drive, Apt. 270, was taken into custody Monday, following an investigation that began in February when detectives received information from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) “regarding the exploitation of children via the internet,” police said.

The department’s Cyber Crimes Against Children Unit eventually identified Kaupelis as the suspect, according to police.

Upon searching Kaupelis’s apartment, police said investigators located what they called “an electronic device.” A forensic examination of the device showed it contained child sexual abuse images, police added.

Following Monday’s arrest, Kaufelis was booked on the charges, and was later released on $2,500 cash bail. The date of his Superior Court arraignment is pending, police said.

Police ask anyone who may have further information on this case, or would like to anonymously report suspected cases of child exploitation, to call the department’s Crime Line at 589-1665.

The Nashua Police Department is affiliated with the Internet Crimes against Children (ICAC) Task Force, members of which are working to combat child exploitation in New Hampshire, according to police.
