Boston Billiards hits $10 million mark in charitable donations, celebration this week

The "thermometer" that not too long ago sat around the $9 million mark has now reached the $10 million milestone, and Boston Billiards will celebrate at an event this week.

NASHUA – The “mercury” in the giant “thermometer” that keeps track of Boston Billiard Club & Casino’s charitable donations has reached a major milestone, and the casino’s staff wants to celebrate the momentous occasion.

Donations have accrued gradually since the casino was added to the popular Boston Billiards pool hall and restaurant back in November 2016, and just recently hit the $10 million mark, according to club and casino marketing director Kevin McMahon.

“We’re planning a big celebration for Thursday, and we’re inviting back all our nonprofit partners from over the years,” McMahon said. He referred to representatives of local nonprofits and similar agencies that have benefited from the casino’s charitable donations.

Aside from the celebration, the bar, restaurant, the pool tables and the casino will be open to the public during regular hours, 11:30 a.m. to 1 a.m.

The casino operates under the state Lottery Commission’s charitable gaming regulations, which, among other guidelines, requires casinos to donate 35 percent of its proceeds to a local nonprofit.

Thursday’s celebration will also pay tribute to the Rotary Club of Nashua, which is in the process of observing the 100th anniversary of its founding.

To mark the occasion, Rotary representatives will be on hand to present $2,500 to several local nonprofits.

Also to be announced during the speaking program will be the winner of the “guess-the-date” contest, who will receive a $2,500 prize for choosing the date closest to the date on which the thermometer hit $10 million in donations.
