BEDFORD – Scores of state lawmakers are joining friends and associates of state Rep. David Danielson, R-Bedford, who passed unexpectedly over the weekend.

Danielson, who was in his mid-70s, served Bedford, in Hillsborough District 7, since 2012, and most recently was vice chairman of the House Finance Committee.

In 2017, he served as the assistant majority leader.

Danielson, of 9 Darby Lane, was also active in Bedford town politics, having been a Planning Board member for six years then town councilor for 12 years before he went on to run successfully for state representative.

An avid arts advocate who was selected the 2017 Arts Advocate of the Year by the New Hampshire State Council on the Arts, Danielson graduated from St. Anselm College then earned a Masters in business administration from Nashua’s Rivier University in 1980.

Colleagues mourned the loss of Danielson throughout the weekend on social media and in statements posted online.

“The Democratic Caucus, Leadership, and staff send its sincerest and most heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of Representative David Danielson on the news of his untimely death,” House Democratic Leader Renny Cushing (D-Hampton) and Deputy Democratic Leader David Cote (D-Nashua) said in a joint statement.

“He was a conscientious and valued colleague, who represented the best traditions of collegiality over his five terms in the House, and he will be greatly missed.”

State Rep. Rosemarie Rung, D-Merrimack, called Danielson “the epitome of a statesman: solid character, impeccable integrity, and boundless generosity,” in a social media post.

“He was a trusted colleague that I will greatly miss. Our last co-sponsored bill was just signed into law last Monday.”

The cause of Danielson’s death is pending.
