Arrest for DUI leads to fracas in the Hollis police booking room

By Dean Shalhoup - Senior Staff Reporter | Apr 30, 2021

HOLLIS – Stopped on Route 111 late Wednesday night, a man from Pepperell, Massachusetts, initially submitted to field sobriety tests when asked by the officer who pulled him over.

But when Officer Lucas Ilges determined that the man, Shawn Straitiff, also reported as Sean Straitiff in the police statement, was allegedly impaired, he took Straitiff into custody.

Straitiff, apparently irked by the driving under the influence allegation, “became extremely belligerent and uncooperative,” according to police.

That alleged behavior prompted the officer to add a second charge, a Class A misdemeanor count of criminal threatening, police said.

Upon arrival at police headquarters, Straitiff allegedly “refused to comply with the booking process,” and eventually police opted to transport him to the Valley Street jail to spend the night while awaiting his arraignment.

The arraignment was scheduled for Thursday morning in Nashua district court. It wasn’t immediately known whether Straitiff waived arraignment, or was held on preventive detention or freed on bail.
