MANCHESTER – Several residents of a Prospect Street apartment building were able to safely evacuate when a fire broke out early Monday morning, but one woman was located inside suffering from what turned out to be fatal injuries, officials said.

Sharon Little, 65, was rescued through a window by firefighters, but she didn’t survive. State and local fire officials said the official cause and manner of Little’s death are pending further investigation, including an autopsy by a representative of the state Medical Examiner’s office.

Firefighters were called to 96 Prospect St. at about 1:30 a.m. for a report of a building fire, officials said.

Crews upon arrival began a search of the building, during which they located Little and pulled her from the building.

The fire was apparently confined mainly to one apartment, presumably the one Little occupied. Crews brought the fire under control within 20 minutes of their arrival.

Members of the Manchester and state Fire Marshal’s offices are conducting the investigation into the cause, and point of origin, of the fire.
