DERRY – Officer Kevin Davies was outside his cruiser in the midst of investigating a crash on snow-covered Drew Road Friday morning, when those same slippery road conditions apparently caused the driver of an approaching vehicle to lose control.

The vehicle, described as an SUV, slid into Davies, momentarily pinning him against the rear end of his cruiser before veering off the roadway, according to police.

Davies, despite his injuries, was able to get to his radio to call for assistance, police said. Additional officers and a Derry Fire Department ambulance responded, and after treating him on the scene the ambulance crew transported him to Parkland Medical Center.

Davies’s injuries, while serious, were not considered life-threatening, police said, adding that he sustained a leg injury and other, relatively minor injuries.

Davies “is expected to be OK,” police wrote in a statement.

They said the driver of the SUV, whom they didn’t identify, remained at the scene and cooperated with officers conducting the investigation. No charges have been filed, police added.

The original crash and the one involving Davies prompted police to close Drew Road for several hours.
