MANCHESTER – Timothy Johnson, the 38-year-old Manchester man sought by police since Saturday’s shooting death of another man, has been captured in Framingham, Massachusetts.

Deputy Attorney General Jane Young said Johnson was taken into custody, apparently without incident, shortly after 12:30 Wednesday afternoon.

Young didn’t say whether Manchester police or any other law enforcement agencies in addition to Framingham police were involved in arresting Johnson, nor did she give a location or the circumstances that led to his arrest.

She did say that Johnson was jailed in Framingham pending today’s scheduled arraignment in Framingham district court.

In addition to the second-degree murder charge Johnson faces in Manchester, he has also been charged by Framingham authorities with one count each of receiving a stolen motor vehicle, possession of “burglarious” instruments and unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, which are the charges he is being arraigned on in Framingham today, Young said.

“Burglarious,” a term used in Massachusetts statutes, refers to burglary instruments or tools.

Johnson, at some point, will be returned to New Hampshire to face the second-degree murder charge. That could happen later today or Friday, at which time he will likely be arraigned in Hillsborough County Superior Court North in Manchester.

Johnson is accused of shooting and killing 67-year-old Jean Lascelle Saturday morning outside 351 Chestnut St., a homeless shelter that is the police department’s former headquarters.

He had been the subject of a wide-scale manhunt since he allegedly took off on foot from the shooting scene.
