LONDONDERRY – A 72-year-old woman from Marblehead, Massachusetts had to be extricated from her heavily damaged Volvo Wednesday morning, but the injuries she suffered weren’t believed to be life-threatening, officials said.
Suzanne Attwood was headed north on I-93 in Londonderry around 9:45 a.m. when she lost control of the vehicle near mile-marker 17, which state police said resulted in the vehicle, a Volvo XC70, striking the left-side guard rail, rolling over. then coming to rest on its roof in the high-speed lane.
Firefighters from Londonderry used rescue tools to free Attwood from the wreckage, after which medical personnel took over and administered treatment before transporting her to the Elliot Hospital in Manchester.
State police, the investigating agency, said it appears that the crash occurred while Attwood was attempting a lane change, but “all aspects” of the investigation remain under investigation.
Two of I-93’s three northbound lanes were closed for roughly an hour while police worked the scene and a towing agency arrived to remove the vehicle.
